Four-year-old Jaida Shantery was born with Spina Bifida. Her mom, Kassondra, puts a brace on Jaida everyday to help her stand and give her some limited mobility.
And a wish came true for Jaida, and her family, as the non-profit group Color Your Corner along with Ursuline College provided a bedroom makeover for the little girl. The makeover will brighten the room and provide Jaida with the access she needs.
"Jaida spends a lot of her time in her room doing crafts, it's great to be able to access things a little easier than we could have done working on the bedroom on our own," said Kassondra.
Ursuline students from the Art, Fashion Design and Merchandising School volunteered their time and talents providing the manpower to transform the bedroom.
"One of our main missions is to give back at Ursuline, so we try to instill that in our students, and this is a great opportunity to do that," said Ursuline Alumnae Relations Director Tiffany Mushrush Mentzer.
Color Your Corner donated everything including new furniture, "When they brought in her dresser Jaida was bouncing up and down, she was so excited," said her mom.
The makeover, the second group effort between Color Your Corner and Ursuline College is meant to foster a fun environment that helps the medical development of children. And it gives the parents some much needed and appreciated help.
"I can't even put into words how much this means to us, I just want to hug them all," said Kassondra.
