UNCW softball team visits Ft. Bragg for team building exercise

Posted: Updated:

Ft. Bragg, NC (WECT) - It's fair to say that the UNCW softball team has had its share of obstacles over the years. The team hasn't had a winning record since the 2005-06 season.

First-year head coach Kristy Norton is hoping to change that.

Recently Norton, who grew up in a military family, coordinated a trip for her team to visit Ft. Bragg where it would take part in exercises to help with teamwork and trust.

The team, along with help from members of the 82nd Airborne Division, would complete the leaders reaction course.

The leaders reaction course is a strategic obstacle course usually used by soldiers to promote small unit cohesion and problem solving.

Although each obstacle has its own specific challenges, they all entail maneuvering each member of the team and pieces of equipment from one side to the other, across platforms of varying heights, using only wooden planks to avoid restricted areas. Unlike a normal obstacle course which requires brawn over brains, the LRC demands planning and cooperation.
