NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – President Obama's plan for gun control is considered the most comprehensive package to come from the nation's capital.
That same Wednesday, gun owners and enthusiasts, sounded off about the effort.
Rick Wright, who owns Shooter's Choice, said a ban on assault weapons would be a knee-jerk reaction and create a second economy of illegal gun dealing, similar to what he saw during the previous federal ban from 1994 – 2004.
"It's crazy," he said. "Stuff has doubled and tripled in price."
Wright's prices stay the same, but he said similar guns are going for inflated prices at online auctions.
Mister Obama signed nearly two dozen executive orders Wednesday, one of which calls for a universal background check. To that, Wright said the firearm industry is already regulated enough with local, state and federal paperwork.
The gun store owner said he's skeptical that a forced maximum of 10 bullets to a magazine will make much of a difference. He said someone with enough hate to hurt another person will not be phased by reloading.
"If you want to shoot somebody, a 10 round magazine is no less dangerous than a 30 round magazine," Wright said.
