An explosion at a well location on a ranch near Charlotte, south of San Antonio, severely injured two Smith County men on Monday evening.
According to Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward, William Crabb, 30, of Tyler, and Christopher Barrios, 29, of Chandler were in a trailer working on a perforating gun when the gun exploded. The explosion caused severe injuries to the men.
Crabb and Barrios, who are employed by J-W Wireline Co., were transported by ambulance to the Atascosa County Sheriff's Officer where they were airlifted to San Anontio Military Medical Center with severe injuries.
A hospital spokesperson said that one man's condition has stabilized, while the other remains in critical condition. A third employee was treated at South Texas Regional Medical Center and released with minor injuries.
According to Soward, the ranch is owned by an oil company, so there is a variety of activity on the land.
OSHA is on the scene investigating the accident.
