WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Many people took advantage of the warm weather Saturday and Sunday and hit the beach.

At Wrightsville Beach, hundreds of people spread out in the sand, some playing football, others surfing and some just working on their tans.

"It was actually really nice, the sun was warm, there were lots of people to look at," said the Knittel family, who took daughter Lucy to the beach for the first time Sunday.

Since the bridge to the island is under construction, and only one lane is open in both directions, traffic did pile up and at times drivers said it took them 20 to 30 minutes to cross.
