Record setting highs on Saturday in southeast NC

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) –  ILM airport recorded a record setting high of 78 Saturday afternoon, beating the old record of 76 set in 1898.  Fayetteville and Whiteville recorded highs of 79.  A dome of high pressure off the southeast U.S. coast is responsible for the record setting heat.  Sunday's forecast promises more of the same with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70's.  Sunday's record at ILM is 78 set in 1907.
