WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Randall Parkway widening project is now underway.
For the past two weeks, workers continued construction of the underground storm water drainage improvements and for the past month they've worked on clearing vegetation.
The Randall pond had to be lowered while new storm water drainage pipes were installed, but the pond will be refilled over the next week, according to officials.
Once the 15-month project is complete, it will alleviate heavy congestion between Kerr Ave. and S. College Rd.
Most of the $5.6 million project is funded by federal and state money and the 2006, voter-approved, transportation bond, according to the news release.
