NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Sean Jones has been awarded the Bill Dalton Unsung Hero Award by the North Carolina Special Olympics. 

The Bill Dalton Unsung Hero Memorial Award was created to recognize outstanding individuals who have contributed to the success of the Law Enforcement Torch Run in their community.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, the Bill Dalton "Unsung Hero" is someone who contributes to the Torch Run and Special Olympics in spirit, dedication and enthusiasm.

The award is intended to recognize an unsung North Carolina Torch Run volunteer on behalf of Bill Dalton, who was himself an unsung Torch Run hero.
