Thalian Hall switching from film to digital projection

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The historic downtown theatre is faced with making the costly change over from film to digital projection.

This year, major film distributors will no longer produce 35 millimeter film prints. As a result, cinemas will have to incorporate new equipment.

Thalian Hall is looking to raise $50,000 for the conversion.

Tony Rivenbark, the director of the Thalian Hall says there are upsides to the change.

When they make the transition, Thalian Hall will be able to show movies quicker using hard drives or downloading movie programs from satellites.
