WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Celia Rivenbark began her journalism journey in Duplin County, working as a staff writer for a small newspaper. Now, she is known across the country for her weekly newspaper columns and books about southern humor.
It has been almost two years since award-winning writer Rivenbark's last book was released. Her latest work, however, is a little different from her other publications, including the title - Rude B****** Make Me Tired.
"I like to have just a little bit of southern flavor to them, most of the time. So the expression so and so makes me tired, and then from there, I jumped off to what really makes me tired, rude 'B's' make me tired, and that is how it came about," explained Rivenbark, who writes from a small office in her home.
This will be Rivenbark's seventh book. Her last effort, You Don't Sweat A Lot for a Fat Girl made it to the New York Times' Best Seller's List, and she has won various awards for the previous six.
And even though the "B" book will be different from those previous six, local book store owner Barbara Galvin believes it will do well, because of Rivenbark's strong following.
"Celia is so popular, people come very year, wanting her new book, wanting to see if she has done anything new, and she is just a local gem," said Barbara Galvin, owner of Two Sisters Bookstore.
Rivenbark knows the book's title will turn some people off right away.
"But from everything that I have seen and everything publishers say, it is kind of golden, in the publishing world, which is sad to say," said Rivenbark.
The original release date for the "B" book was sometime this spring, but to get more time for pre-release publicity, the publishing company has now set September 1 as the new release date.
