
HMS Bounty sinking. (Source: US Coast Guard)PORTSMOUTH, VA (WECT) - The United States Coast Guard plans to conduct a formal hearing to investigate the sinking of the Tall Ship Bounty next month.
The Bounty sank about 90 miles southeast of Hatteras in late October. The Coast Guard searched for ninety hours over 12,000 nautical miles after getting the distress call. Fourteen people were rescued and two died, including the captain, Robin Walbridge.
The Coast Guard hearing is set for February 12th through the 21st at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center. The investigation is to find out the circumstances surrounding the sinking and make recommendations for future safety measures.
