
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT)- Want to get an inside look at local law enforcement? Now is your chance. The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office will be starting their Sheriff's Citizen's Academy on February 26, inviting the public to a free 10 week, 3 hours a week class.
Participants will hear presentations from the Sheriff, Sheriff's Detectives, Crime Scene Investigators, K-9 handlers as well as state and federal agencies. They will also tour the Sheriff's Office, the Detention Facility, the Magistrate's Office, and see demonstrations of the Sheriff's K-9 teams, Firearms and the Sheriff's Patrol and Emergency Response Team.
The "Sheriff's Citizens Academy" lasts for ten (10) weeks. The classes will be at least three (3) hours per session and with classes beginning at 6:00 (pm) and ending at 9:00 (pm) nightly. The location for each class will vary depending on the course material. The Academy coordinator will provide the location for each class session.
