WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A meeting discussing offshore wind energy is underway at the Courtyard Wilmington because, apparently, North Carolina has the largest offshore wind potential on the east coast, according to reps from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
The meeting is an opportunity for BOEM to hear from the public on the future of wind energy off our coast. The BOEM will also talk about the next steps in environmental planning and leasing processes.
Several local environmental and city leaders attended the meeting to find out more about wind energy.
The state is working with BOEM to select areas off the coast for potential wind farms.
