Proutey was shot in the head and left for dead in December as he was walking to his car after working at the Community Arts Center in downtown Wilmington.
"He was a very loving, kind, gentle soul, who I don't know ever had an enemy," his mother, Patty Proutey, said.
Patty said Joshua was your typical college student. He had moved to Wilmington in August to attend Cape Fear Community College. She said he was making ends meet with the help of his parents and his new job at the Community Arts Center.
The event at CFCC will take place in Room L-110 A at the downtown campus, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
This will be an open space for the CFCC student body to gather and process this tragic loss, celebrate Joshua's life, offer condolences to the family, learn about the grieving process, and to speak with a minister or counselor on site.
Authorities arrested and charged four people in connection to Joshua's death.
