WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The chief of police is asking the public to help crack down on crime.
Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous is gearing up for his "eyes and ears" initiative.
Evangelous said he has reached out to local cab drivers, tow truck drivers and mailmen. He said these are the people familiar with the neighborhoods and probably see more than the average citizen.
"Be our eyes and ears in the community and when you see something that doesn't look right to call us," he said. "We believe the more we have it can only make our job more effective."
Evangelous said there's a fine line between profiling and knowing when something just isn't right, but your best bet is to go with your gut.
He is encouraging all citizens to call 911 if they see something suspicious.
