COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A local radio broadcaster died in an early morning house fire on Kings Road in Columbus County Tuesday, according to friends and emergency officials.
Friends say Bobby Pait worked at WTAB 1370AM since 1985. He had a gospel radio show Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Crews in that area responded to the house fire in Columbus County early Tuesday. Columbus County dispatch said the call came in around 5 a.m.
According to county fire marshal Scott Merritt, Pait was found was discovered in the living area.
Merritt says that Pait's son was home during the fire, but he escaped.
Merritt says that his office, the sheriff's department, and SBI are investigating the blaze.
Merritt adds the the cause of fire will be undetermined. As of right now, there is no suspicion of foul play, but the incident is still under investigation.
