Hand-blown glass jewelry

A local artist is turning her talent into a business, but her art doesn't hang on the wall. It hangs around your neck.

Lissi Rabon creates hand blown glass jewely in her backyard studio in Wilmington. It's called lampwork, an ancient art form that dates back to 17th century France and Italy.

Elizabeth learns the basics of beadwork, first melting down a glass wand under a flame, and then skillfully wrapping the molten part around a manderil to form a bead. Elizabeth's bead may not be a real gem to look at, but it's not bad for a beginner.

Rabon sells necklaces featuring her her hand-blown glass. To see a catalog, go to www.luloops.com or call 264-3332.
