COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A 13-year-old at Chadbourn Middle was suspended for five days, Wednesday, for having a hunting knife at school.
According to Alan Faulk, Superintendent with Columbus County Schools, the knife was found as the student was entering the building going through the metal detector.
According to Faulk, the principal and SRO investigated and determined the student had no intent to bring the knife, therefore they determined it was not intended to be used as a weapon.
The student was suspended for having a knife in his possession and was charged by the sheriff's office.
Faulk says that's normal procedure.
