WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - City Stage is ringing in 2013 with a musical that definitely does not take itself seriously.
It's Monty Python's Spamalot. Monty Python is a British comedy troupe famous for its sketch comedy and surreal humor. Spamalot is adapted from the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
It's based on the tales of King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, the Lady of the Lake and several other over-the-top characters. It provides one absurd comedy bit after another.
"There's nothing serious about this show," said actor Jason Aycock. "If you're coming, then you're going to have a good time.
"Unless you don't like Monty Python," added actor Troy Rudeseal. "In which case, it could be a terrible mistake!"
City Stage, in conjunction with Thalian Hall, held a gala performance for New Year's Eve, including food, drinks and party favors. The cast says the show is a good way to celebrate a new beginning.
"As really crappy as this year has been, it's a lot of fun," said Rudeseal. "I think laughter would be a good way to ring in the new year and to hope for a better 2013."
