WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department have identified the man found in the 4900 block of New Centre Drive Wednesday morning as 48-year-old Judson Lee Poland, Jr., a WPD spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
Officials say Poland sustained a serious head injury. He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he later died.
"There's a gal over here saying that there's somebody on the ground next to Wilson's with blood all over him," a woman told 911 operators.
It appears that the victim was assaulted and he did not have a fixed address.
Two people called 911 in connection to the incident. One person told 911 operators, "somebody bashed him in the face pretty [explicit] good."
"He doesn't have on pants or a shirt," the caller continued.
A preliminary autopsy report confirmed the cause of death to be subdural hematoma, according to officials.
The manner in which he was injured is still under investigation.
