WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Patrick Ransdell was relieved of his duties as Senior Associate Athletic Director and Director of the Seahawk Club effective Wednesday morning.
"We decided we needed to go in a different direction." Said UNCW Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass. "Patrick will have no problem finding another job, we wish him well and thank him for what he's done for us."
A search for Ransdell's replacement will begin immediately.
Ransdell took over the position in February of 2011. At the time the Seahawk Club had a total of 883 members.
According to Assistant Director Patrick Spach current membership is in the low 700's. Spach indicated the club is still evaluating gifts from 2012 and official numbers won't be known until next week.
"Right now we're finishing up with our 2012 pledges and will be sending out renewals for 2013." Bass said. "This spring we'll be going to areas outside of Wilmington looking for new members, it's just going to mean a little more work will be needed to maintain momentum."
Just after Ransdell's hire in 2011, Bass, along with Collegiate Sports Associates and two committees consisting of coaches, donors and members of the Board of Trustees helped create a 35-page document mapping out the department's goals beyond 2015.
Among the goals were for the Seahawk Club to raise 7 million dollars over a five year period and for the Club to increase membership by 50 percent by 2013.
"Obviously we'll have to slow down the process and take several months to find a new director, but our goals are still the same, they just might not fall into the time we originally planned for it to happen." Bass said.
Bass indicated he's currently interviewing candidates and hopes to fill the Associate A.D. for Major Gifts position by February. TimDuncan, who most recently held the position, left to become the Athletics Director at Paine College in April 2011.
