NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students and teachers at Hoggard High School were on "alert mode" Wednesday afternoon after staff members received a threatening email.
According to the school's principal, the school was on alert, not lockdown, from about 2-3 p.m.
An email was sent to staff members about a potential threat against the school. Law enforcement quickly ruled the email a hoax.
Leaders in New Hanover County recently developed a short-term plan to add a law enforcement officer on every campus in the district.
Longer term security options will be discussed with the Board of Commissioners during the board's next meeting, January 7 in the Assembly Room of the Historic New Hanover County Courthouse starting at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
