
Every elementary school in New Hanover County will have a law enforcement presence beginning Wednesday, according to officials.NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – School safety has been the topic of conversation across the country since the tragic events at Sandy Hook.
More than two dozen lives were taken and now local law enforcement officers are making sure that doesn't happen again.
Beginning this week, the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office will put one law enforcement officer in each of our elementary schools.
WECT.com is told this is a short-term solution at the moment.
The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners said it was a quick decision made by the sheriff's office in response to Sandy Hook.
A long-term security option will be reviewed at the board's next meeting on Monday.
The public is welcome to attend.
Students will return to the New Hanover County School System on Wednesday.
