NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - One New Hanover County resident is taking action to keep speeders from flying through his neighborhood.

David Gilbert, who lives on Greenwich Lane off ofWaltmoor Road, put a speed limit sign in his front yard.

"It's a problem here," said Gilbert. He says cars frequently race down his quiet neighborhood road.

"I've been out in the road, just checking the mail, and cars come whipping by and they have to swerve," said Gilbert.

He is worried about the safety of his neighbors, especially the children. Two years ago, his across-the-street neighbor, Cameron Lloyd, 11, ran into the street without looking.

"The car went around the corner, and slammed into my stomach and I fell forwards and hit my head," said Lloyd. "It felt like I was being ripped in half."  Even though he was at fault, he doesn't want the same thing to happen to his little brothers.

"I don't want them to get hit like me," said Lloyd. Gilbert's hoping his sign, helps that wish come true.
