Wish comes true for 8-year-old with life threatening condition

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - 8-year-old Noah Roberts is just like any other kid his age. The only thing different, he's battling a life-threatening condition.

Noah was playing with his sister in the driveway and in an instant, everything changed.

"He fell and hit his head on the driveway," said Lisa Roberts, Noah's mom. "We took him to the hospital and when they did a CAT scan they told us the good news was he did have a concussion and the bad news was they saw something more."

At the age of 5, Noah was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis, a condition which creates brain and spine tumors. The genetically mutated disease will eventually take his hearing, before taking his life.

Noah lives life like any other 8 year old. He enjoys playing with Legos and spending time with his dog. After hearing about his condition, the Kids Wish Network granted him a wish.

"His wish was to go to Disney World and Harry Potter world at Universal," said Lisa. "We returned a week ago."

Kids Wish Network grants wishes to children who have serious medical conditions.

It's important to Lisa to create a normal life for her son.

"When he feels good, he wants to be on the go and be out going and doing things," said Lisa.

There's no telling how much time Lisa has with her son, but whatever time is left, they'll make the most of it.

"We want him to stay just the way he is," said Lisa. "At the same time, we want to provide every opportunity we can and we try and do that every day."

Lisa said it's her faith in God that keeps her family from breaking down.

"An angel knocked him over that day and created that accident so we could find these tumors," said Lisa. "Because when they came out of surgery they said, one more month and it would have been too late."

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
