WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A local effort to pardon the group known as the Wilmington 10 is now gaining national attention.
On Sunday, The New York Times published an editorial calling for Gov Bev Perdue to pardon the group before she leaves office next month. The editorial says the pardon would "finally bring a close to one of the more shameful episodes in North Carolina history."
Earlier this month members of the Wilmington 10 handed over more than 14,000 petition signatures to the Governor calling for their pardon.
