The International Longshoreman's Association is threatening to walk out in just five days if the group fails to reach a deal with the U.S. Maritime Alliance.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A looming strike could impact North Carolina's ports, including the one in Wilmington.

Work on 15 ports along the East Coast could be at a standstill, and that includes the port in Wilmington.

The International Longshoreman's Association is threatening to walk out in just five days if the group fails to reach a deal with the U.S. Maritime Alliance. The two sides have been negotiating for months.

ILA workers load and unload ships in Wilmington, though the Port Authority spokesperson says it's hard to tell what kind of impact a strike could have.

WECT tried getting in touch with local union representatives, but no one was available Monday for comment.
