WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – It started as just an idea…to send boxes of love to Sandy Hook Elementary School. Now, the idea has taken off.

Gaby Merediz, the owner of the TMuffin playgroup, is working to send boxes full of love to Newtown, Connecticut.

She is having kids that come to TMuffin draw pictures and write notes for the students, teachers and staff at Sandy Hook. All of the heart shaped letters and pictures will then be mailed in boxes to the school.

"The people in Newtown need love, and so I thought let's make art with hearts and flood them with love," said Merediz.

Just days after announcing her plan, Merediz is seeing a large response from the community. Already more than 100 heart shaped pictures and notes have been dropped off.

Merediz said when she heard about the horrific shooting she wanted to do something to help.

"That was just the big question - everyone wanted to do something and no one knew what to do , so it's just nice to know that maybe the kids will feel a little more supported and more loved when they go to school," explained Merediz.

Merediz said people can continue to drop off their artwork in TMuffin's mailbox on Wrightsville Avenue and she'll continue mailing boxes to the school.
