CLAYTON, NC (WECT) – Hundreds of people are expected to
attend a celebration of life ceremony Wednesday for a teen who was shot and
killed in Wilmington.
Joshua Proutey was shot in the head and left for dead
Thursday night as he was walking to his car after working at the Community Arts
Center in downtown Wilmington.
"He was a very loving, kind, gentle soul, who I don't
know ever had an enemy," his mother, Patty Proutey, said.
Patty said Joshua was your typical college student. He had
moved to Wilmington in August to attend Cape Fear Community College. She said
he was making ends meet with the help of his parents and his new job at the
Community Arts Center.
According to Patty, Joshua had plans of becoming an officer
in the US Marine Corps after he completed two years of school.
A celebration service will be held in honor of Joshua
Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Cleveland Community Church in Clayton, NC. The family
will receive friends from noon until 3:00 p.m.
