NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A maintenance contractor is planning for another round of layoffs at the beginning of the year in New Hanover County.
Mundy Maintenance Services and Operations, LLC will lay off 32 people in New Hanover County by January 2nd, according to information provided to the state. The company also plans to cut 45 jobs in Cleveland County.
According to the company's vice president of human resources, the mass layoff "is due to our contract being terminated with our customer."
"They have awarded that contract to a new contractor and typically when that happens the new contractor at least interviews and typically hires a high percentage of the new employees," said Andy Beard, Vice President of Human Resources, in a statement. "There is a good chance that number will be employed."
It's the second cutback for the contractor in our region this year. In June, Mundy laid off up to 40 people on a job being done on the Invista site. At the time, a company spokesperson told WECT.com they were just cutting back on production at that location.
