WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Police and emergency workers were in the 5100 block of River Road Tuesday afternoon in response to a car that crashed in the woods in that area, according to New Hanover County dispatchers.

Authorities say Ronald Simmons, 31, of Wilmington was traveling north on the road when he veered off into the woods, finally stopping about 40 yards in.

He was the only person injured, and his injuries are non-life-threatening.

Simmons said he doesn't know why he ran off the road.

Police shut down the section of River Road where Simmons crashed for about 20 minutes while the pickup truck was removed from the woods.

Simmons was charged with a lane violation for bas exiting his lane.
