Sen. Thom GoolsbyRALEIGH, NC (WECT) – Senate President Pro Tempore Phil
Berger announced Monday he plans to appoint Senator Thom Goolsby and Senator
E.S. "Buck" Newtown as co-chairmen of the Senate Judiciary I committee early
next year.
According to a press release from Berger's office, the
Judiciary I committee is responsible for the state's most complex legal issues.
Berger released the following statement:
Over the past two
years the Republican legislature passed major tort reforms. Sens. Goolsby,
Newton, Allran, Daniel and Bingham will continue our efforts to reform our
state's civil and criminal justice systems, making the necessary changes to
keep North Carolina a nice, safe place to live and to work." said Berger.
"These leaders bring the right combination of real-world legal and private
sector business experience necessary to ensure our state's judicial system operates
efficiently and fairly.
