Hannah Martin always wanted to be a dancer. Her mom, Rhonda, has a dance studio in Gaston County where Hannah lived, danced and taught. But in the summer of 2007, Hannah's dream was shattered after she got in a wreck and was told she was paralyzed from the shoulders down.
"I was speeding," she admits. "I shouldn't have been. It was middle of the day. No drinking involved. I was just going too fast. I kinda ran off the road, and the back end of my car hit a tree. My head went back against the seat any my neck pretty much exploded."
Five years later, Hannah says she never expected to do what she's about to do this weekend: graduate (with honors!) from University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a double major in psychology and criminal justice, and a minor in sociology.
"I'm proud of me," she said smiling from her wheelchair. "It's an accomplishment. I didn't know if I'd ever get this far."
