WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington health physicians Kevin O'Neil, MD, FCCP, FACP and Paul Kamitsuka, MD, DTM&H, were recognized as top physicians in their fields, according to a news release.

Dr. Kamitsuka was recognized for Infectious Disease while Dr. O'Neil was recognized in Pulmonary and Allergy.

Only five percent of doctors in America earn this prestigious honor, which is decided by impartial peer review in which doctors who excel in their specialties are selected by their peers in the profession, according to the news release.

Over 47,000 physicians in the United States were polled. Doctors in 45 specialties and over 400 subspecialties of medicine appear on this year's List.

According to the news release, doctors cannot pay to be included in the Best Doctors database, nor are they paid to provide their feedback.

Best Doctors works with expert physicians from its Best Doctors in America List to help its 30 million members worldwide get the right diagnosis and right treatment.

"I am very humbled and grateful to be named in the Best Doctors list. It is an honor to be listed among the talented and skilled specialists in the state," said Dr. O'Neil
