Carolina Beach residents will be asked to pay $2.19 a month starting next year for a new residential recycling program.
Environmental activists, including the Island Women's Group, pushed for the program, which will provide large recycling bins to the town's 4,400 residents.
It will take about 12 weeks for the containers to arrive, so the program won't roll out until early next year.
The program will cost presidents around $36 a year.
