WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Members of the Operations Department with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority repaired a spill from the sanitary sewer system December 10.
According to a press release from the Utility, the incident was reported at 9:40 a.m. and the spill was stopped within two hours.
CFPUA said the spill was caused by a failure of a water line located in the wall of a sanitary sewer manhole at the intersection of Fourth and Harnett Streets.
Approximately 2,400 gallons was discharged, which flowed into the City of Wilmington Storm Drain system and then into the Cape Fear River, according to CFPUA.
The incident has been reported to the proper authorities.
