You have to look closely to see the stitching done by the Taylor brothers.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A community in Wilmington is on alert after neighbors found their Christmas decorations destroyed.
Wayne Taylor, of Corya Drive, said he walked outside Sunday morning to find nearly all of his holiday inflatables crumpled on the ground. He pointed to a gash running down Rudolph's chest.
"From here to here is where they cut him up," said Taylor.
The attack added an extra burden for the Taylor family, because there was no time or money to buy new decorations. With some inspiration from his neighbor and the help of his brother, Taylor sewed them back together.
"To be honest with you I didn't think it was going to work either, but it did," he said.
Anyone driving by to enjoy the neighborhood displays won't notice the small stitches keeping the decorations afloat, but community members will be watching too. Kevin Batson said he'll be keeping an eye on his street.
"I know they're probably kids, but someone needs to be taught a lesson," Batson said.
Sheriff's deputies are investigating what happened, but there's a chance the lesson will never be learned. Regardless, Taylor said a message has already been sent to anyone passing through the Silva Terra area.
"You can come in my yard, and you can cut it up but you're not going to destroy my Christmas spirit."
