
City leaders in Southport are looking to purchase a new building to replace their current city hall location.SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – It's out with the old and in with the new for leaders in Southport.
Officials with the city said leaders are moving forward with a contract to purchase a building, which could be used as the new city hall.
Leaders unanimously an offer to buy the building located at 1029 N. Howe Street.
The building was built in 2006 and will be able to provide more space and a better environment to work in, according to the town officials.
Employees are currently working in a building that is about 100 years old.
The new building will cost the city about $1.8 million to purchase.
The board will look to sell existing property to help finance the Howe Street building, according to the city manager.
