Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) December 10, 2012
The Project for Natural Health Choices Inc. issues an advisory suggesting that men consume a diet rich in flavonoids to protect against prostate cancer. This advisory is based upon a stream of new research in this area. A recent example of groundbreaking research was conducted by the University of South Carolina and presented at the last quartly meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research which indicated a higher intake of flavonoids can lower the risk of developing prostate cancer.
This particular study looked at an approximate 1900 patients who were recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. What the researchers found is that those whose diets included the highest amount of flavonoids were 25 percent less likely to have been diagnosed with the fastest-moving and harshest form of the disease compared to those who had been taking in the fewest flavonoids.
The researchers explained that flavonoids are found in vegetables, fruits, tea, wine, juices and cocoa. Recent other research has indicated that they may fight inflammation which has been linked to increased cancer risk.
Listed below foods are considered prime sources of flavonoids:
· Black and green tea
· Orange juice
· Grapefruit juice
· Strawberries
· Onions
· Cooked greens
· Kale
· Broccoli
The researchers also noted that although they believe that in addition to lowering the risk of getting a more aggressive kind of cancer that the flavonoids will help lower the risk of developing cancer in the first place.
