WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – UNCW Police questioned two men who matched the description of some suspected thefts Sunday.
Campus police responded to an assault and attempted robbery of a student early Sunday morning, according to a news release sent to students.
The student told police he stepped in when he saw two men going through the car of someone he knows in the P lot on campus, behind University Apartments.
That's when he says they beat him, searched his pockets and ran off. The student is recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
Lieutenant James Watkins with UNCWPD said Sunday that Wilmington Police has charged the two likely suspects for similar crimes. No names have been released at the time of this report.
Charges from campus police are expected Monday morning, according to Watkins.
Campus police encourage students to report a crime in progress rather than try to handle it themselves.
For this incident, University Police searched campus for the suspects, and called in the K-9 unit from Wilmington Police to assist. But due to damp weather conditions, the K-9 unit was unable to pick up the suspects' trail.
