WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A death case in the Avalon Apartments is closed, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

According to Lt. Mary Green from the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to an apartment Saturday morning, where they found a woman dead inside who had apparently been there for several days. They described the apartment as being in "hoarder-like conditions".

The woman died of natural causes, and her name has not yet been released by authorities. However, they say the person she lived with, who is disabled, could not make it to the door to get help.

After yelling for help for days, neighbors who were walking by finally heard the man's cries Saturday morning and called 911.

The caller told 911 operators that they could hear a man banging on the window asking for help every time they walked by the apartment.

The man was transported to the hospital for treatment for dehydration and other medical issues.
