WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A delegation of citizens, led by surviving members of the Wilmington 10, will travel to Raleigh Friday morning to deliver over 14,000 petition signatures to Governor Beverly Perdue.
The move is part of an on-going effort to get Governor Perdue to grant pardons of innocence before she leaves office.
The signatures will be delivered Friday at 10 a.m. at the Governor's State Capital Office.
Nine black men and one white woman were convicted of arson and conspiracy more than four decades ago in a case some say was tainted by racial discrimination and jury tampering.
Just last week, the North Carolina NAACP revealed what it called evidence that the district attorney at the time was trying to select jurors who were KKK members.
Governor Perdue leaves office next month.
