Opening of Trader Joe's store caused big traffic concerns

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Trader Joe's officially opened Friday morning around 8 a.m. on the corner of S. College Rd. and Oleander Dr. However, the rush to check out the new store caused some big problems.

Side roads, like 47th St. behind Trader Joe's, seem to have more traffic issues than College Road. An officer was there writing citations for people who parked against oncoming traffic and people who weren't parked far enough from the center line in the road.

In addition, residents on the street are not happy. They say people are blocking their mailboxes and driveways. One resident said he called police because people were parking on his property.

According to a spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department, officers have been contracted to work at Trader Joe's for the next three weeks to help with traffic control.
