The driver of a suspicious vehicle died in a one-vehicle accident after speeding away from a traffic stop in Lindale, Thursday evening.
Troopers said Kamron Vickers Geis, 36, of Van was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m. on FM 16, just outside of Lindale.
Minutes earlier, Geis allegedly took off in a 2008 Dodge car after a Lindale PD officer tried to make contact with a "suspicious vehicle" spotted near a rodeo entrance.
The officer called off the pursuit about 30 seconds after initiating the chase. According to Lieutenant David Craft with the Lindale Police Department, the officer turned off his lights and radioed dispatch to let them know he was not going to pursue the suspect's vehicle.
A short time later, officers were notified of a major accident approximately two miles from the original traffic stop, according to Craft.
Geis apparently lost control of the vehicle, drove through a fence and into three trees. He was pinned by the wreck and had to be extracted.
A medical helicopter was called to the scene, but Geis' condition was too unstable for the flight. He was pronounced dead at a Tyler hospital.
This marks the second fatal wreck Thursday in Lindale. A 65-year-old man was killed around 4:45 in an accident on Highway 69 North at CR 4148.
