NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Some developers from South Carolina have their eye on the Porters Neck area of New Hanover County.
Paramount Development Corporation is working with transportation engineers to study traffic flow around the 8000 block of Market Street. Records from the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Area show place holders for the studies that include 242,500 square feet of retail, a bank and two fast food restaurants.
Real Estate Manager David Harner said Monday that the use of the land is still a concept at this point. Right now, he said it's important to study the surrounding area to learn if the existing conditions could support a project like this.
Without a definite plan for development, Harner said it's too soon to know what businesses would want to set up shop in the possible shopping center.
The land sits less than half a mile away from the proposed Amberleigh Shores apartment complex. Wilmington city leaders approved and annexed the 282-unit development earlier this year.
8107 Market Street is currently owned by the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to tax records.
