WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - After a weekend of Black Friday shopping and hitting the stores online for Cyber Monday, many are probably trying to find ways to make some extra cash.
They say one man's trash is another man's treasure, and this holiday season, you can turn your trash into some cash at consignment stores.
"Rather than taking it to a yard sale where you'll get just a little bit of money, you can consign it and generally speaking get a larger amount," said Lou King, manager at Lou's Flower World.
"It is a good way to get rid of things around your house that you don't need or want anymore," said Susie Shepard, a vendor at Lou's Flower World. "During the holidays it's also a good way to make some extra money."
If you want to be a vendor, you can bring in things you've made or even some old stuff and the consignment store will give you an area to set it up. Once the item sells, the store will keep a percentage of your sales.
"I like the different things, the way the people paint some of the things and the way people have taken things and made it really beautiful," said Roberta Carnes, a shopper. "I think somebody would have to have their products available in a setting like this."
Carnes also by gifts for people from consignment stores.
"I bought a couple of things that I'm going to give to someone as Christmas gifts and even though they're from a consignment shop they're beautiful," said Carnes. "I know they're going to love them."
Some of the vendors consign as a hobby while for others, it's their main source of income. Either way, it spends just the same.
