The Salvation Army and Williams Cleaners team up to donate coats to the less fortunate

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Salvation Army is keeping people warm this winter by teaming up with Williams Cleaners on Wrightsville Ave. to help donate jackets, coats, fleeces and sweaters to people in need.

Wednesday afternoon volunteers loaded two trucks filled with over 3,700 coats to be donated from the Salvation Army.

Amazingly enough, that number is up from last year when they donated over 3,200 coats. Between now and Christmas, they'll be handing out coats of all sizes to children and adults in our area.

Major Richard Watts says this is a great way for the community to come together and help those who are less fortunate.

With temperatures dropping quickly every day, he says now is the time that people need coats the most.

The Salvation Army is continuing a tradition that has been carried out for years.
