Hunters asked to help in missing persons cases

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Community United Effort (CUE) Center for Missing Persons is asking hunters to be more vigilant in the woods.

Hunters tend to spend more time in the woods during this time of year and may come across remains or articles of clothing.

"There are 750,000 to 800,000 missing persons cases annually," said Monica Caison, director of CUE. "Hunters may be going into areas where we're not searching."

Anyone spending time in the woods or empty fields could come across key pieces of evidence. They are asked to call authorities right away.

"If something doesn't fit, call authorities to have it checked out or note it and let authorities know when you exit," said Caison. "There's so many missing people and our world is an open graveyard out here. We need to find these people."

In the last week, CUE has received information on dozens of human remains sightings.
