WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County School leaders said they're making strides when it comes to cutting down on the number of items that are missing or misplaced.
The latest list from New Hanover County Schools shows the district is missing $236,699 in inventory. This is down from last year, when the school was missing $511,712 in inventory.

Most of the missing items are computers. However, the district is also missing computer software, projectors and desks.
Valita Quattlebaum, the district's spokesperson, said the items on the missing list account for only 2% of the district's total inventory.
Last year, when we checked in with the district, 7% of the inventory was on the missing list.
Quattlebaum said after our initial inventory story, the finance department and schools' principals made it a priority to better track what's lost.
"We have made some strides," said Quattlebaum. "We did some training as a result of some numbers that we weren't pleased with before. So, we see that training has paid off. We are going to keep training and keep focusing on it."
Quattlebaum said many of the items that end up on the list aren't actually missing. She said in some cases, they are transferred to another school and the paperwork just hasn't been completed yet.
"We are staying on top of that and we hope that number continues to go down," said Quattlebaum.
