WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a fight that happened on school grounds after school hours.

The fight happened among three students at Hoggard High School on Friday afternoon.

According to Wilmington Police, two 15-year-old students met a 16-year-old student on the football practice field. One of the 15-year-old students then held the 16-year-old down, while the other one hit him in the face.

The 16-year-old was hit repeatedly in the face, but he did not suffer any broken bones.

According to police, the 16-year-old's mother was at the school to pick him up when the fight ended. The mother and her son then ran into the school liaison officer.

The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital to be checked out and was soon released.

No charges have been filed by the police department at this point.

The names of the students will not be released because they are juveniles.

The mother of the 16-year-old told WECT.com that she believes her child was a victim of bullying because of this incident.

The New Hanover County School System told WECT.com that officials are investigating the incident.

"The investigation is currently being conducted by Hoggard Interim Principal Eric Pfirman," said a spokeswoman for New Hanover County Schools. "We are working on this matter and cooperating with law enforcement. The interim principal will take the appropriate action once the investigation is concluded."
